Travel Diaries: India

The last time I had gone to India was 10 years ago. Traveling back to my family’s hometown where my parents grew up almost felt like the whole city was frozen in time. It looked like nothing changed, yet going back, it felt different. The kids that once used to play on the streets in front of our house were grown up and gone. The once bustling and busy neighborhood was empty and quiet. Everyone, including my parents, were holding on to the way things once were, and it felt nice being able to experience all the places they frequented as an adult. I got to do my first uttarayan with a million fireworks to round out the day, and go to my first wedding in India, where the baarat was 3 hours, yet it felt like no time had passed.

Outside of being home, we went to Kerala and Udaipur and I got to see how gorgeous India is outside of Gujarat for the first time. This trip was full of firsts, and I cherish each one.
